The Nigerian Navy has handed over four suspected oil thieves to the Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to a statement from the commission obtained by DAILY REPLES, the suspects are now in custody of the EFCC along side their illicit machandise contained in 35 (300 litre capacity) drum of premium motor spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol.
While stating that investigation has begun into the incidence, the state culled from the website of the commission added that two wooden boats and one fibre boat were also recovered from the suspects.
The Commander of the Nigerian Navy Base, Navy Captain J. Shenu said the four suspects: Yomi Philip Omoshola, Fayowola Ogunfunyi, Japheth Emmanuel Pius and Ofonime Bassey Eniefiok were arrested in two separate operations along Effiat Waterways, Ibaka of the state.
He stated that while Yomi Philip Omoshola, Fayowola Ogunfunyi were arrested with twenty six (300 litres capacity) drums of petroleum product suspected to be PMS, on-board two locally made wooden boats; Japheth Emmanuel Pius and Ofonime Bassey Eniefiok were apprehended with nine (300 litres capacity) drums of suspected PMS, conveyed in a fibre boat on an outward sail to Cameroun.
The leader of the EFCC team that received them was DSS Abubakar Musa.
