Oyo State Government has commissioned newly refurbished Lekan Salami Stadium located in the heart of Ibadan, the capital of the state.
At the well attended event, Governor Seyi Makinde on Wednesday led other dignitaries comprising of governors from neighbouring states such as Ondo, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, Edo, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to the unveiling.
Also present was the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick and other top sports administrators such as a former Chief Coach of the nagtion’s senior national football team, the Super Eagles coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde.
The event came exactly one year after the contract was awarded to Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited by the state government through the Alternative Project Funding Approach.
Commenting on the development, Makinde wrote in in his verified istagram page that “It was an honour to receive our former Vice President, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, as we unveiled the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
“I am also thankful to my brother governors, His Excellency Arakunrin Rotimi Akerdolu and His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, who graced the event.
“I thank our guests, NK Tabor Sezana of Slovenia and former Super Eagles Players 94/98, for honouring our invitation to the international friendly and novelty matches, respectively. I enjoyed being part of the novelty match despite the rain.
“I also thank all who attended the event and the good people of Oyo State for their support. We will continue to upgrade sporting facilities in Oyo State to boost our economy, and give our young people opportunities to hone their talents to become world-class athletes.”
Highlight of the event was a novelty football match between the 3SC of Ibadan who defeated visiting Slovenian side, NK Tabor Sežana. 4 nil.
