Senate confirms Bawa as new EFCC chairman

The upper legislative chambers, The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Abdulrasheed Bawa as the new chairman of the Economic, Financial and other Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This follows a two-hour plenary session that took place in Abuja on Wednesday where the nominee denied allegation making the rounds suggesting that he sold some recovered items of the commission at giveaway prices.

A native of Jega in Kebbi State, Bawa thus becomes the youngest chairman of the agency when he was initially nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari last week

The allegation of his involvement in illegal sale of recovered items at the Port Harcourt office of the commission became very rife upon his nomination last week but Bawa denied it saying he remained qualified to lead the agency.

He said the seized property in Port Harcourt were properly disposed off by the agency’s officials from its headquarters.
