Ogun governor’s aide arrested in US for fraud, identity theft

A Senior Special Assistant to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, Mr. Abidemi Rufai has been arrested in the United States over wire fraud.

Reports have it that Rufai was arrested at the JFK Airport in New York for allegedly defrauding Washington State Employment Security of over $350,000.

Until his appointment, Rufai, was a House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According sources close to the security community in the US, Rufai is also accused of using multiple identities of more than 100 Washington residents to steal over $350,000 in unemployment benefits from the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) last year.

“This is the first, but will not be the last, significant arrest in our ongoing investigation of ESD fraud,” Tessa Gorman, acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, said in a statement on Monday.
