Obaseki to FG: ‘let’s stop playing the ostrich’

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has replied the Federal Government over its (FG’s) reaction to his earlier comments that the sum of N60b was printed to be shared amongst all the three tiers of government in March.

Reacting to a response by the Minister of Finance, Hajia Zainab Ahmed, the governor urged the Federal Government to stop playing Ostrich on the state of the nation’s financial health.

In a statement he issued on Thursday, the governor however urged the Federal Government to rally all Nigerians around with a view to repositioning the nation’s economy to path of recovery and growth.

The response of the governor came in a page response to the statement credited to the minister debunking his assertion.

According to Obaseki, “We do not want to join issues with the Federal Ministry of Finance, we believe it is our duty to offer useful advice for the benefit of our country.

“The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed should rally Nigerians to stem the obvious fiscal slide facing our country.

“Rather than play the Ostrich, we urge the government to take urgent steps to end the current monetary rascality, so as to prevent the prevailing economic challenge from degenerating further.”

On the way forward, the governor said, “We believe it is imperative to approach the Nigerian project with all sense of responsibility and commitment and not play to the gallery because ultimately, time shall be the judge of us all.”
