The Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere has debunked the news making the rounds that it has endorsed the aspiration of a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu for the 2023 presidential election.
In a statement issued by the Director of Communications of Afenifere, Mr. Sola Lawal, it added that the group has not endorsed any aspirant as its candidate for the nation’s top job.
The statement by Lawal thus put to paid, the assertion of the leader of a pressure group, the South West Agenda, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, suggesting that his group had obtained the endorsement of Tinubu to vie seat.
The statement added that the position of its erstwhile leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti who expressed support for Tinubu was not that of the group as it was still mourning its recently deceased spokesman, Yinka Odumakin.
Lawal on behalf of Afenifere said in the statement: “The Adeyeye foray into Afenifere space at this period of huge loss and intense mourning is disrespectful, insensitive and unwarranted.
“Being a former Afenifere top notch and in fact, Odumakin’s immediate predecessor in office as spokesperson for Afenifere, Adeyeye should cease all activities and join us in mourning at this trying times.”
