Actor Yomi Fabiyi begins advocacy for Baba Ijesa’s release

A prominent Nollywood actor, Mr. Yomi Fabiyi has launched a social media campaign for the release of a fellow member, Mr. Olarenwaju Omiyinka popularly known as Baba Ijesa.

Omiyinka who has been accused of child molestation by another Nollywood actress and comedienne, Miss Damilola Adekoya popularly known as Princess Dami is currently being detained at the Nigeria Police Force facility in Panti, Yaba, Lagos.

The embattled actor is currently being investigated for allegation of child molestation preferred against him by Adekoya who reported him to the police for molesting an unnamed foster child in her residence.

The case has generated heated debate and attention in the public with many Nigerians divided in the opinion.

Despite the weight of evidence against Omiyinka, Fabiyi has been consistent in his believe that all aggrieved or angry Nigerians allow the due process of the law take its course on the matter.

This position has however drew the ire of some Nigerians who have made up their minds that Baba Ijesa must be punished for his misdemeanour.

In Fabiyi’s verified Instagram account @realyomifabiyi, he has in the last 24 hours been campaigning for the release of the embattled actor on bail, insisting that the offense is a bailable one.

He also argued that the prolonged detention of the accused is a gross violation of his fundamental rights as the law presumes anyone innocent of any crime until convicted by the law court.

He has been posting series of screaming banner information, one of which reads, “Release Baba Ijesa on bail now! It is against the lawn to hold any suspect down longer than allowed under the law without trial or bail for any bailable offense in Nigeria.”

He further added that “To continue to hold him is against his fundamental rights. It is injustice and abuse of power. Do not indulge in it. No more police illegal detention. Know your rights and fight for it.”
